Halloween Canteen

 Planning

On 31st of October, we will have a Halloween disco after school where people can dress up with Halloween costumes and dance in the hall. I wasn't directly involved in organising the disco, but I was planning to set up a little cafe

to sell food for this. The profits the cafe will make will be used for a charity. We had 5 people to set up the cafe and the menu we thought of were sushi and Korean traditional food called Sam gak Kim bob(foreigners call this Triangles as it has a triangle shape), because foreigners especially Russian in the school seem to love it. We also added toasts in menu, as they were simple ones which we could easily cook and sell. The price for each menu was a bit higher than the standard, since the aim of this was to make as much profits as possible for the charity. The day before the disco, we decided not to sell Sushi, because we were not really confident to make it and didn't have a refrigerator to save raw fish. We bought 36 bread, ham and cheese for toasts and made 60 triangles which were 20 more than the previous plan as we put Sushi off in the list.

Service (Selling food)/ Charity (global issue)

One of the worrying things on this day was we made too many triangles compared to people who would remain for the disco. So we decided to start to sell them just after school, so people going back home could also buy some. We couldn't sell all of them, but many people bought them and the remain was only about 5. Teachers and many students left the feedback that they really liked it.  As I was the one who was selling triangles, I felt so fulfilled and great.  For toasts, 36 was not enough, so we went to buy more, but bought too much and had to leave some as people didn't buy as much as we bought. However, in total we made a lot of profits which was about 5500 rubles and this will go for the charity.

About the Charity

Not only my group, but others also collected money from such things as tickets for disco and mini backery during lunch time. The money we have collected is about 40000 rubles which can help weakers of the society a lot. We first consdiered to send all the money for the homeless people. It is good to help people who wander around because there is nowhere to go, but to some extent some homeless people lose their home because of their fault(such as gambling, debt). Therefore, we decided to send some money, not all to them. The remained will be used for helping disabled children. I always think that I am such a lucky person as I am given a good environment to study and have no problem physically. However, some children at my age or even much younger have difficulties in their lives because of physical handicap they had. We wanted to give some hope and opportunities to these little people who should have hope for their lives, with the money we collected.

sign language

(Service&Creativity)

On 20th of October, it was thanks giving day and we anually celebrate it in the church that I go to.  In the chruch there are largely four departments and each department has to prepare something to express thanks for what we are given. What we usually do is singing, but this time we did something fresh that wasn't done before - sign language on music 'You Raise me up'. We watched the video on youtube and tried to imitate it. I realised that my hands were not flexible at all and compared to girls my actions seemed to be awkward. Also I always got wrong at confusing parts, so I really practised a lot not to make mistakes on the real stage.
We had only 2 weeks to prepare this and time we actually met together to practice was only 2 days as everyone had busy schedules. All of us were quite good as we practiced individually at home, but the problem was that we played on different tempos. One of the most important things was that we had to synchronize our actions on the right tempo of the music.  So for the last time we met, we really practiced a lot to have a good teamwork.

On the real stage, it was successful. Since the day was between the half-term exam, I couldn't balance the time to practice sign language and study school subjects. Also this was the first time I tried  Sign language, but I practiced a lot and managed to do it quite successfully. Honestly, while practicing, we were weary due to long practice, but we felt really great on the real stage, seeing few people moving to tears.

International Day

Service

On international day, year 12 made different kinds of activities that can entertain young kids like we did last year and we as year 13 organised the day. So many people did lots of works and as a result the day went amazing. I didn't take such a big important role, but I took year 11b and make sure they participate in activities. As they were not so young, they could control themselves and didn't do ridiculous things. However, when the activities were not interesting to them, they just talked to each other and showed rude behavior to a person who prepared an activity, but generally there was no big problem.  And the day before, year 13 helped to set up the gym for a talent show. I thought it would take quite a long time to move stuffs and organise the gym, but we did it in a blink of an eye. And this year we have changed the formation of the stage. For several years, the stage was set at the corner of the gym, which was very uncomfortable to watch for the audience, but this time, it positioned on the middle and parents could watch performances much more comfortably.

As I always feel on international day, it is the most enjoyable school day in a year and this is possible, because many people put efforts and cooperate to organize one day and participants also eagerly participate in . After few months, I will graduate from this school, but never forget the amazing memories I had as a participant and an organiser on this great day which show well why this school is 'international'.

Creativity (performance on international day )

Last year, I played the guitar in the band called High Five, but as some members left to their countries the band was disbanded, so I didn't think of performing this year. A week before International day, Yarrubi and David asked me to perform together. First I thought of turning it down, because I am not such a good player and I was afraid of ruining thier performance. But I accepted to do it and the song we chose was Emeli sande-breaking the law. Fortunately, the song was just consisted of the repetition of four chords. But the fingering part was quite difficult for me to do, so I changed it easier to play. Also, I gave some varieties in guitar strokes to harmonise with David's beat box. Actually last year, when I played the guitar in the band, the guy who played the first guitar always helped me a lot on every song and I played the guitar passively according to what he told me. The song was not difficult, but this time it was a personal challenge and achievement to play the guitar by myself without helps.  We have practiced hard for a week during every lunch time. We all were so nervous before our turn, but we enjoyed it and it was successful!

reflection on half term basketball

I have played basketball for quite long time, but I found several problems that I still couldn't get rid of. For several times, I posted my problems on the blog, but I think I didn't get better much. STILL I can't not dribble properly without looking at the ball. I am a point guard who should pass more and lead games. However, as I always look at the ball when I dribble, I usually can't see ones who are open and I miss a lot of good chances that can directly be assists. Also my shooting is still not good. I know the problem. My shooting form  is fundamentally not in a standard stable form. I should release a shot when I am at the highest point in the air, but I still shoot when I am going down, which reduces power and accuracy as well. Also I need to use finger snaps, not a snap of a palm. I have realised this recently and this is what I need to improve. One more problem is that opponents already know the motions I like to use. I use particular fakes, movements, pass routins and since we have seen each others' play style for a long time, we now can read where opponents move. I can predict others' movement, but my movement is also being read. Personally, I think we have the best members(though the individuals' capability is subtle), but in this term our team took the second place among 3 teams. I am sorry for my team mates and I have to make certain plans that I can improve. Since it is winter now, time and place I can play basketball are limited. Days I can personally practice is 20 minutes before the club on Wednesday starts. During 20 min, I just randomly shoot, but since now I will try to change my shooting form first and get used to it for 10min and another 10 min is for practicing dribbling.

Summary
- More passes
- Dribble without looking at the ball
- Give more varieties in movements, fakes and dribble patterns
- Change a shooting form

Creative writing - a response to The Waste land

I don't have much experience on reading and analysing poems. I was an ESL student during IGCSE and in my 12 I learnt not many poems: Carol Ann Duffy's and Robert Browning's. But last wednesday (18th of Sep) during English lesson we learnt a super difficult poem called The Waste land by T.S Elliot written in 1922. We actually didn't learn and go into depth, but the teacher just recited the poem and asked how we felt about it. I had no idea what it was talking about. I even didn't get what the poem was about, who the speaker was, and what was happening in the poem. The problem was that he gave us homework to write a response to this poem, but we could do anything we want: drawing, making a film, creative writing such as poem or normally oral commentary. This was obviously related to CAS as it was producing a creative piece of work and challenging enough.
However, in order to do this, I really needed to understand a poem at least partly, but I had absolutely no idea about it. Although I reread the poem once again at home, it didn't still make sense to me. However, suddenly a good idea came across in my head. How about I wrote a response that I don't get a poem at all? The point of this task was not understanding a poem, but showing my feelings. Anyway, I didn't get the poem and I wanted to show that I could produce a creative writing even if I didn't get the poem. I wrote a diary from my point of view. In the writing, I was nervous, as the teacher might ask me a question about the poem. And finally when my turn came, the long silence kept and the only sound in the room was a clock going. Tik Tok..and by using this sound of the clock I attempted to create my nervousness, developed tension and the silence. And at the end of writing, I realised that the whole thing was dream as the ringing of alarm clock awakened me.

First basketball this year

Since I stayed in Korea for 2 months during summer holiday to study, I didn't play basketball for 3 months. As I know the importance of regular practices, I guessed that the first day in basketball club would be horrible (even when I didn't play once a week, all the things like shooting were reset and I had to practice them again) Last wednesday, I participated in the school basketball club with a thought that it was the first day after 3 months and . The main players such as Mr.Gray and Mr.Giddens unfortunately left the school, but some new players came. We first started with lay-up practices. I found that my lay up from left side, which was horrible in last year, got worse. Shooting was also not an exception. I did watch a video which teaches how to shoot properly and accurately over and over again just to get used to it, but watching and playing were obviously different. According to the record (we started to record individuals' shooting to reflect our performances), my shooting rates was only 33% (3/9). I think the problem was that I needed to look at basket until the ball was released from my finger, but I didn't concentrate until the tip point.

Not only individual skills, but also the team play was not really good. In my team, the members were great; they were all quite good players, but the games didn't go as I expected. Personally, I was baffled where to move and didn't help my team very much. And I found myself that I hold the ball for too long. Actually, I couldn't see my team members, dribbling the ball, and this was a main cause that we missed the chances to score at appropriate timing with good passes. In the first basketball session I realised that there are a lot to work on to improve and these are what I should do to be a better player.

> Participate in a school basketball team regularly just to keep
> Look at the basket until the ball is realsed
> Release the ball at the highest jumping point
> Look around and pass at suitable timing
> Practice left hand lay up

Reflection of last year and What I need to do

Last year, year 12, was a personally time that I adapted to IB. Frankly, I don't think that I am fully used to it, but I at least realized that I shouldn't study casually like last year. I regret that I didn't study much last year, which I always do every year. And I swear to myself that I will become a completely different person, whih also I always have done every year. But this time, I feel some desperation and necessity that I really have to be.

Since I came back to Moscow from Korea after holiday, my brain was completely cleared, so fresh that every stuff I learnt seems new. However, still a lot to go forth, a lot of new stuffs are waiting for me this year and I also have to revise the old stuffs. I am a kind of person who really don't trust myself, always regret what I did and say that I cannot do it. And as I always have done I am afraid that I can really do this: whether I can successfully finish my IB with my empty brain.

As I feel this year shouldn't be wasted like the last year, I am now reflecting my y12s and what I should do in year 13. First to look at my academic results, there is no subject that I can say I am good at it. All the subjects seem to be a problem for me, but I got fine results in business, Russian and English. But no certainty that I will get the same or better results. Then how can I improve those?

Seriously, revision is important. Forgetting is a natural occurence for human beings and the way to pevent is keep rehersaring. Last year, I actuallly knew that I had to revise in regular term, but I delayed and delayed and spent one year like that. And the most dangerous thing in studying is attitude that I will do it tomorrow; the same principle is applied for CAS. I now know that tomorrow is the day before exam and should never delay.

It is easy to say I won't do it, but difficult to put into practice. For my whole academic years, I just planned, but never did in the reality. Time flies and it is significant to manage time really wisely. I have a year, but a lot of things to do. Personally, I not only have to do IB, but also to study other things required for Korean university. And one more problem I have is my English is not good. So I also have to spend more time to improve my English to become at least like my classmates, but I have more to work than others. How can I deal with time management problem with a lot of works then?

I am not sure that this works and I will follow it everyday, but I think everyday planner will quite help. It is not just a list that what I have to do today, but  from when to when I do this and that to be working more effectively.

And not only study, but I shouldn't neglect CAS as well. I heard that few senior students who actually got good results failed to get diploma. I have so many things to care about. It seems impossible to make it. But trust myself, and never give up.

Specific things I need to do
- Revise with a planner
- Enlarge my vocabulary in Russian and English
- Show a good participation in class
- Don't be afraid of asking questions to teachers
- Never delay works
- Use time wisely

Take a shot-enterprise activity on creativity day

Preparation

Originally, I was supposed to be a supervisor to support Mr.Crip and Mr.Linch's enterprise activity. We(Shun, I, Johnny) moved around to help and offer ideas to people who didn't have much experience on business, but most of groups made their own creative businesses well. Actually, I found myself interesting in this activity and suddenly wanted to participate in it after observing people making their businesses. Fortunately, we were allowed to make our own business, but still had to keep eyes on students. We preferred to make a service rather than selling stuffs such as food and the idea we made was 'Take a shot'. The game rule was simply this: a person has five chances to throw a paper ball to hit the cups on the tables and two practices are offered before the real one. Each cup has different points and we set the cups with high points. The top 3 who gets the most will be rewarded with chocolate. Before making rules, we discussed the sensible price, setting of cups, ways to promote and made some cups. (I was the one who designed cups. I drew different facial expressions on the cups, but no one actually cared about it...)Actually, we used the psychology that people would try more as they would tend to break the top scores. This was for the first day to be ready for the business

D-day

Next day, the estimated customer number was about 50, but it was  overconfident expectation. For first 20-30 minutes, no one came and we blamed ourselves who thought this was such an outstanding business idea and we saw other businesses making money with jealous and irritation. The pleasure when  the first customor came can't be explained, happy was somehow not enough to describe the feeling, but still after the first customer people were attracted by other businesses surrounded us. We again self dis that the idea was creep. However, after few hours this was proved that the idea was quite good indeed. At first time, we just put posters at school where people could see well and didn't do anything special. However, we realised that we had to bother customors to come and visit. So Shun and I walked around, grasped people, gave them posters and said them to come and have a go. I always thought people who grasped me on the street and gave posters were annoying, but  now can understand it's their job and it's useful for the business. Because of our irritation promotion, some people came and others who watched them playing got interested and they also played. I was really happy that many people came, especially the psychological strategy we made worked. Some people who used to be on the top 3 list played for few times to get into the top3 again. I felt really good as we made a lot of profits. I knew that it was only few hours, but I was completely exhausted after the activity. However, I felt really fulfilled and proud of myself that I earned money by myself and realised that making money is seriously not an easy job. This day gave me a lot of feelings that I didn't feel and a lot of good experience including earning money that I actually can't learn just from academic study.

Fouls !!!

Actually, I realised that I easilly get emotional and I ca't control myself when I play basketball. On this wednesday, I really did that. We played teachers+Ndina and Yarrubi VS students today. It was ok at the beginning of the game. Although I missed quite many shots, it was ok until I got too absorbed in the game. When Mr.Gray was running toward our side after stealing the ball, I pused and kicked him during chasing him. Frankly, I can't see anything when I just chase around the ball, so I don't remember what happen and what I have done. I also didn't remeber what I did and claimed that it wasn't foul. But logically, it was right that I kicked him and it was an obvious foul. This was not the end. The second time I had a conflict was when I tried to block him, I should have vertically jumped, but as I jumped towards him, I fell over him. I ruined not only his mood, but also the atmosphere of the general game. Looking back, it was rude and it was not the thing that a man playing sports do. I always made my team in trouble, but this time I just did it in a different way. However, thorugh this game, I got many morals:

> I should try not to make any physical contact as this can cause a problem

> I should vertically jump when blocking

> I shouldn't resist to any decisions that the refree makes

> I should keep pace, not lose control

Teachers vs Students

This time we did something different in school basketball club on Wednesday. Actually, we hadn't had particular teams, but this time Mr.Gray suggested that we would make the team of teachers and two student teams. In my team, we had Yarrubi, Johnny, Ji won, Han, Ndina and I.  At the first time, I was nervous as teachers team seem to be ready and Mr.Gray and Mr.Havard seemed really confident to beat us. However, when I watched the first game which was Teacher team vs Student team, my tension decreased as they played 5 point game for 20 minutes. I didn't think that my team would win by a big margin, but the first game we played well and as teachers ran for 20 minutes, they couldn't play as they could do. Generally, we didn't play many games, but this competition made all the players play harder with enthusiasm than usual. Mr.Gray said we would continue to play like this and I found few points we need to improve:

- Yarrubi and Ndina are good, but they don't take a shot. If they are not afraid of taking a shot, it would be great for the team regardless of whether they would miss. And we have to pass more to them.
- My pass is horrible. Sometimes, I just dash over and don't pass properly.
- If we use screen, then Johnny or Ji won who are good at lay up can score easily.
I am looking forward to next time.

Badminton with my sister!

I went to the park with my family . The weather was awesome with a bit of wind and pleasant sunshine. Actually, I generally don't like just walking around, I need something active to play. So I brought badminton rackets and a basketball just in case. There was no basketball court and no badminton court , but I just played badminton with my sister who hasn't played badminton much. I thought it wouldn't be really fun as she couldn't receive my serves, but she got better as we played and we could rally for few times. Also this was challenging for me to receive her ball, because she couldn't control hit the shuttlecock to random direction.. I thought it really helped to train my stamina not intentionally though. I tried to teach how to serve and how to hit the ball more accurately, but as I am not a good player and she actually didn't listen to my advices carefully, teaching went not really successfully.

articles/ posters, but

Since y6s and their parents are coming tomorrow, I thought of putting simple posters or articles about global issues to raise awarness of them. There are different kinds of global issues from different subjects (e.g. English-language disappearance/ ESS - pollution/biology-clonning, genetic production) and although, not many people would notice it, like a famous phrase, everything has its seeds. However, since I planned just the day before, it was hard to make several articles/posters of different issues alone, so I didn't do it actually. I needed to ask other friends, but I just thought that they might not be willing to do, so I didn't ask them.
However, I realised  co-operation and others'help are really required for this kind of project and also I should have started earlier and needed more precise plan to make it happen. Next time, if I get this chance, I won't miss it and will try to make it happen with a good preparation.

Art fair!!

I participated  in art fair organised by Ms.Plat. . Frankly, I was not a volunteer for this, but since there was one person missing in a pair who was supposed to teach Decalcomanie, I needed to back up. On this day, year 12s went to Schooll 9 to teach different  fun art activities for young kids. The activity I and Michael did was Decalcomanie: draw what you want to draw on the half of the paper and fold it, then it will form a one full picture. The first difficulty we faced was we needed to be brought down to the young kids'levels, so we had to explain in easy and understandable ways. Also, it was quite hard to control them. We were not really good at how to treat kids, so  when they were not doing what they were told to do, we didn't know how to make them do it as some of them didn't do just by asking them to do. After two sessions which were about 3 hours, I was exhausted. I think I didn't do too much work, but just it was too hard for me, a novice teacher. However, teaching and playing with young kids was such a good experience for me as well as it was challenging.

FAMILY

(Service&Creativity)
Finally, on 11th May we had an event to celebrate parent's at the chuch. We have several things to show to our parents such as candal worship and sign language. As I mentioned in the plan, we have been preparting this for 5 months and we named it FAMILY (Father And Mother I Love You- such a creative name!)
Actually, we divided groups and practised individually in teams, so I couldn't see others practicing properly before the rehersal, but they were all really good. I really appreciate people who led the teams well and others who practised hard. It went really successfully, especially when we showed the messages  sang parents'song together in front of them, some of them moved to tears. However, on this performance I was a delegated to be a host(MC) who should form the atmosphere and introduce each peformance well, but I was too nervous in front of many people and these great performances went a bit awkward and I think these great performances were ruined by me. However, looking back, I think this was a good chance that I first speak to many people and taking this opportunity, I will be better next time if I get another chance. And this cooperation and efforst will be unforgettable as we really did hard and did well.

Academic honesty video

As mentioned in the plan, the aim to make this academic honesty video is to show that cheating, which is actually not considered as a big problem for some students,

There was no one in my group who has much experience of editing videos or have great skills on it. Accordingly, we couldn't make a professional video, but we tried to convey the importance of academic honesty in simple ways. It didn't take us ages to produce this video, but as this one is my second video, some editing processes, for example putting subtitles for the right timing according to scenes and music, made us difficult.

Reflection of other people on our academic honesty video
Good points that we reflect and others comment on:
- first person perspective
- funny subtitles and it makes watchers more concentrate on the video (including humor)
- In simple ways, the message was conveyed straightforward and clearly.
- enjoyable music

Weaknesses
- Definitions of some words pass too fast to read- quite inefficient
- There is a scene which it was a bit difficult to understand
- Could have given variety in music. Although music was joyful and helped the video not to be boring or too serious, it might have been better.

Evaluation
Overall, I think we  made a satisfactory video which well reflects academic honesty, regarding we don't have much experience on editing. Furthermore, I think this video quite successfully achieved the primary aim to show that academic honesty is unethical, because the person who cheat in the video ends up with failing. However next time, if we take into account others'opinions during the process of making a video, the final version would be better.

Plan for chruch event

In church, students have planned to hold an event by ourselves with little financial helps of teachers. We wanted to do something meaningful which we can show love of Jesus towards us as well as our love towards parents. As a member of executive, we made a vague plan what to do first and delegate responsibilities for each of us. We made lists of things they could participate in and let them choose at least one of them. Also, we were free to any suggestion they wanted to do on that day, but it should be related to parents.(no one suggested anything though). We had to make invitations, announcements and practiced what we are going to show. There were lots of things to consider and do and it was hard to control about 50 students, especially when practicing. I and my friend were responsible for a team with 15 members and since they tended to  Also I was worried whether we really could make it happen and succeed it. It was the first time that students made an event and show it in front of all the people in church. And since I will spend my holiday, I won't be able to do overall rehearsal on 5th May with others.

Reflection of what I did on talent show

I have played the guitar in the band, but frankly I didn't practice so often. The talent show on friday was a reminder how hard I need to practice. Actually, we brought the guitars just for a regular practise on friday, but there was the audition of talent show, so we just decided to do it. We did think there would be only small number of people, so we were not really nervous about it. However, more and more people came and we had to play in front of quite a lot of people. It might not be a lot, but for me who have only played in the band  it made me really nervous. And since I am like a hole of the band, many people watching was a burden for me. From the start to the end, I made many kinds of mistakes. The tempo I played the guitar was not matched to other instruments(I thought I played faster) and I missed the last part. Also I was supposed to sign where to stop to the durmmer, but  I missed the time where I was supposed to give a sign. It was the first time in this year that we actually showed how we played to many people, but we were critcised actually because of me. I felt really sorry for all the members and I really  realised I really need to practise at least not to make other members fool.

Academic honesty video plan

Unethical issue?
Honestly I used to copy and paste information from wikepedia to do my last minute homework. Also I sometimes copied friends' work. But since becoming an IB student, I haven't done these kinds of cheating. In IB it strongly says that cheating (more mature term-plagiarism) is not permitted and if it is detected, students will get sanction for that. I didn't take an issue with cheating quite seriously in the past, but I realised how unethical plagerism is. Since becoming an IB student, I apprarently felt the big difference between IGCSE and IB from much more tasks to complete  like internal assessment or FOA. I put a lot of time and efforts to produce the best work as much as I can. And if someone steals or copies my whole hearted works and even gets good grade, then I would be really upset and can't help with anger. And in reality there are several cases that someone who copied others'work got a good score in even university, which is obviously unfair for studnets who did put a lot of time and efforst . During CAS, Mr.Gray suggested an idea to make an academic and  I thought it is such an efficient way and good opportunity to highlight the significance of academic honesty and prevent this unethical behavior in my school.

Plan for a video
For a video, I and some of my friends made a group and planned to show several things that we are not supposed to do such as copying and pasting or changing just few words from a book. The video should be serious, but also interesting as well as if it is boring, then people will not pay attention to it too much and hence not realize the importance of academic honesty. This is the plan we made:
> Enjoyable and pleasant music- music is a significant factor which influences the mood in the video. Although academic honesty is a quite serious issue, we still want to make it interesting as we don't want people to be dozing while watching our video
> First person perspective? - This is an easy way to take scenes and complicated story is not needed. Also the message is quite straight forward.
> No voice at all? - Actually no one in my group, including me, doesn't want to be involved in narrative or talking. So we decided not to put any voices, but to convey a message only with scenes and subtitles. This might be efficient, but can be ineffective.

It is not the first attempt that we make and edit a video, so we can do better than last time. However still it is a challenging  work as we still don't have good skills to make a nice and com.

Extended Essay

In CAS session, we learnt what we should do for an extended essay. It occpies 3 points including TOK out of 45 points. Since the longest essay I have written was less than 1000 words, extended essay seemed a big burden to me. I realised that I really shouldn't be realaxed about it. I have to decide what subject I am going to write about and which topic question I talk about in the essay. Also the subject should be what I am interested in; it is really hard to write about an issue that I don't have any interest in. Vaguely, I am thinking of doing on English, history(about korea) and biology. I know that I should have already made a start, but I still hesitate what to do.
Moreover, in this session, we made a short drama to represent the class what a student and supervisor should do.  We planed to show aspects of a good student and a bad student, but time was too limited to show what we disscussed. Others suggested some creative ideas, but I just agreed with what they said. Next time, I should more actively participate in group discussion.

learn how to plan

On wednesday, we practised how to plan projects, since planning is a fundamental process to make things happen possibly. We assumed that we would organise a summer fair and during this CAS session, we made a plan for it.
This is the plan I made with Ho Jun so far.

Basically we started our plans with 5w 1h.

Who? -who will organise (Y12s)
-who will participate in? : all school students
--will break them into each year group into two

When? -at the end of June (the week after exam week)
-use a whole day for it

Why? - to release stress of the exam and give an opportunity to make students a great memory
           - to enjoy the short summer in Moscow
           - to raise money for charity ( people who are dying in femine)

Where? - at school (both inside and outside)

How? - There will be at least one person who supervises a group of each year. It can be like an international day, so we make groups and each of them has a station/activity.

Possible activities (for charity)

1) water gun war

We haven't made  specific game rules, but there should be no problems with safety. We will make a small field by drawing lines on the ground and there will be refrees for a fair game and safety reasons. but we have to think about it more.

2) Water melon shooting (outside activity)
- Make a small wooden  target and hang it on the wall. 1 piece of watermelon will be 30 rubs and people who got a target will be rewarded with cool juice.

3) an unknown box

we put several things in a box covered with black cloth and people who guess correctly will be rewarded; we will give the things they guess and chocolate as rewards :)
1 trial - 20 rubs (20 seconds)

4) Throwing ballons to faces
- this activity really needs volunteers who are willing to wash their face by water ballons thrown. If we gather (hope about 5 people) volunteers, we prepare a board with a hole to put a face. the prices we think of is 1 trial for 50 rubs 3 trials for 100 rubs.

5) Summer concert
- I am playing the second guitar in a band and our band can perform on that day. ( we can perform with other people like David who can do awesome beatbox) It will be free, but some people can sell food in an art room and when they enter the concert they can enjoy the concert with food. This money will also be used for charity.

However, problems for these seem that cost of buying chocolate or ballons can possibly be more than we get money from students, so it is necessary to attract and encourage them to do these activities.
(e.g. Posters on walls)

Challenges : I have never led this kind of event and this will be an opportunity to organise things and  Also since I started CAS, I haven't done some charity work so far. There were many successful cases like selling cakes and I also

And during the session, there was one thing that we couldn't think of: uncertainty.
Bad things will possibly happen. Inspite of detailed plans, due to some of problems which can occur, this summer fair propably will not work as we plan and expect. So we should prepare for these things to prevent  big problems. Next time, when I plan, I will surely insert it into my plan.

If this will happen, I should talk to othe people who will also involve in this day and we need to decide who will be responsible for what.

Snow Day

I went to the park with y10s on snow day. There were quite many y13s and 12s to supervise them, but still it was hard to control them who were excited by the wide snow field. We introduced two games for them to enjoy and play. The first game they played was taking a flag from the opponent's basement. There were two teams; One is trying to take the flag and bring it into its basement and another is defending the flag. If a person got hit by snow thrown by other team, then he was out. I was responsible for saying 'out' to those people. As I assumed, people who was hit just pretended not to be out and just continued to play and I was one of the referees to prevent it. Also this game needed physical contacts and could lead physical injuries, I needed to make sure the match go without any safety problems. Being a referee was harder and more challenging than I thought. First I needed to make a fair judgement otherwise it would cause a conflict between teams, so I had to pay attention all the time. Also I needed to run a lot

After that, we came back to school and I was happy that everyone seemed to join this day which is escaping from everyday life. I liked the free and not restricted atmosphere, but it actually caused a problem. The las period was teachers vs students and when I looked at teachers being surrounded and hit by number of students, I thought something would happen and it happened. Today was too uncontrolled and some more supervisors who actually reminded them what they should keep were needed. And I think if the school can support, a range of activities we can think of will become more various.

What I need to improve

This week few more people came along. There were about 10-13 people and actually I thought it was an ideal number to play basketball. We played in two teams and kept subtituting people, so that everyone could play equally. I was chosen as a captain and I picked people who I used to play with and the teams were balanced, but there were more people who are good at lay up and fast break in another team. In fact, I don't know how I play and on Sunday I just watched the video edited by Han and it was awkward to watching me playing, actually I didn't know I played like that.
I found several things I need to improve.
- don't hesistate when shooting.
- move around to find spaces.
- pass accurately
- stronger defense

We allowed lots of scores another team just by simple pass misses and awkward defense. When I play on this Wednesday, I should bear in mind those and attempt to improve them.
Thanks Han for editing :)

2013 CAS Plan

Action

Basketball (wednesday 4:00-5:30/ saturday 2:00-4:00)

I've played basketball regularly and it becomes one of the expected things in a week. I played basketball constantly, but still there are things I need to improve to be a good player.
aim -to enlarge my shooting range (3pt)
-to be a more accurate shooter
-to be able to dribble with two hands naturally
-to learn the fakes which are useful (e.g. cross over)
       -to do more pass plays

Possible project

During lunch time of Monday and Tuesday, gym is for peope who want to play basketball, but actually no one who wants to play basketball, so the juniors use it to play football. I can manage with other friends to set a basketball tournament. However, I haven't decided yet I will make this or not.

Creativity

Band

After International day, we have had a short break for our band and we are planning to start it again.
I am lack of skills and I still can't play the guitar properly without looking at it, so I need more self practices not to harm the band.

Project

We haven't decided what songs we are going to play, but we will have a mini concert one day at school. Since now, we pratice and collaborate with each other, so we can be as good as being able to play in the concert. Actually, I thought if we sell the tickets with cheap prices for our concert and  the money we make will be used for a donation, but we are not that good and I am pretty sure that they won't come if they need to pay. So we are just having a mini concert for free later :)

Composing a song

When I play the guitar, I play some codes randomly and I accidently find some fine melodies. I am not musically talented, but I've wished to compose a song and CAS gives an opportunity and encourages me to challenge myself. I am not sure when I can compose a complete proper song, but I will have a go.

Service

 Washing up/ announcement

In church, when it's our turn to do wash ups, I help mothers to do wash up sometimes. But still I can help when it's not our turn. Moreover, I am responsible for making announcements for church. I ask to the priest or other elders what kinds of new things will be put in announcements and write it down. I do this once a week.

the first basketball club after holiday

On wednesday, I regularly come alog to the school basktball club. For 2 weeks, I haven't played basketball ,so I needed make my body get used to it. Although it was the first school day after holiday, I also went to the club as usal. I guessed there wouldn't be enough people for full corts, but I thought at least 10 people would come. Only 4 people(including the teacher) came, which meant we even couldn't play half cort. However, we practiced our lay up skills and shooting skills through many kinds of games suggested by Mr.Harper and we could check what skills we would need to focus to improve. 2 weeks were enough time to lose the sense of shooting and as I expected my shooting rate was awful (about 30%). 2:2 game was better than shooting, because at least I could pass to another person and he could score instead of me who was just awful. Next time, I will do some individual practices on shooting before matches.

Exam tips?

We have taken tests for several times and especially last year we took IGCSE which I thought hard, but it was nothing compared to IB. Anyway in psychology class we decied to give one exam tip per person, for y10 and 11. On post-it I wrote 'Read the question at least more than twice!' It was the most significant advice as a person who missed lots of scores just due to not reading questions properly. I hoped the advices we gave will help them not to lose socres which they can gain and spend time wisely following by our tips.
